Traveling social club Prada Mode is featuring Damien Hirst’s installation “Pharmacy”, at the landmark ICD Brookfield Place.
Prada mode celebrates contemporary culture with global cultural gatherings around music, dining and talks, at diverse locations worldwide. Its eighth iteration took place on the 9th and 10th of November for members and on the following two days for registered public at the newest landmark building ICD Brookfield Place in Dubai, where British artist Damien Hirst recreated the “Pharmacy”. In a fully functioning restaurant and bar, the artist took over the place to imagine a spectacular floor-to-ceiling medicine cabinet full of pills and molecules.
Members were invited for an opening dinner, a spin painting workshop to create paintings by using templates inspired by Pharmacy symbols, and various discussions curated by cultural strategist and art advisor Myrna Ayad. From 21st-century patronage to multiculturalism in the UAE’s art and culture scenes, the talks explored cultural landscapes, trends, movements, and initiatives. Later on, Prada Mode brought the party to the Pharmacy with DJ sets from various artists : DJ Sanasesh, DJ Rishy Malik, DJ Bobby, DJ Plead, DJ Habibi Funk and DJ Megatronic. PS: Food was delicious.

Damien Hirst’s installation will be open to the public on November 11th and 12th. Conceived in London in 1998, this art experience offers an explosion of colors and specially made butterfly paintings. Entirely designed by Hirst, the furniture features a huge molecular model in its window, light boxes, and a wallpaper design taken from a catalog of prescription medicine.
“I’m thrilled and honoured to be invited by Miuccia Prada to recreate Pharmacy for Prada Mode in Dubai after our successful collaboration in Moscow,” said the artist. “Once again, Prada have found a space that will provide the perfect place for it. I’m so excited to be doing this! I’ve always thought great restaurants can be seen as art, and art without the evidence as we always remember great meals on great evenings with great people in great places and in this way Pharmacy is definitely a kinetic artwork, that works best filled with people and art existing and living and breathing and eating and drinking and enjoying themselves as one.”
