Azzi & Osta | Behind the Spring-Summer 19 “Memoirs from the Silk Road” Haute Couture collection

AZZI& OSTA revealed its Spring Summer 2019 Haute Couture collection; “Memoirs from the Silk Road” at the Hotel de Crillon in Paris on January 24th.

This season, the collection is inspired by the Silk Road; the ancient trade network that connected East and West and where silk, goods and cultures were exchanged. Each gown from the collection pays tribute to a city, a monument or memorable landmark discovered throughout the journey.

This is visibly translated through various techniques used such as the pleating on dresses, the flowy fabrics, the antique embroideries and the sculptured structures. The main fabrics used are silk satin, organza, double satin duchesse, and gazar, reflecting the minimalism and purity of the desert dunes and sea horizons while the principal colors used reflect the colors of the skies from dusk till dawn , with shades of Jade Green , Cerulean Blue, Jasmine white, Powder Pink , Lilac, Mulberry yellow and Twilight blue.

This collection features two bridal looks, notably one with a detailed embroidered cape that took twenty craftsmen hand embroidering it and over 120 hours to make.

“It was always very fascinating to us how silk as a luxury had to travel from one side of the earth to another to get to the royal courts of Europe. The idea of how secretive and protected was the provenance and art of silk making, is very similar to Couture, the savoir-faire, the well-kept secret of the couture house, and the journey that undertake every piece” says duo designers AZZI & OSTA.
