Prada investigates work as a state of reality for its Men FW22 Fashion Show
IT’S A SUNNY AFTERNOON IN MILAN, THIS JANUARY 16TH, THAT WE’RE ABOUT TO LEAVE BEHIND FOR A MOMENT AS WE ENTER THE DEPOSITO OF THE FONDAZIONE PRADA, IMMERSED IN DARKNESS AS REIMAGINED BY AMO (THE CREATIVE LABORATORY OF THE OFFICE FOR METROPOLITAN ARCHITECTURE (OMA)). FOR FALL WINTER 2022, MIUCCIA PRADA AND RAF SIMONS HAVE REFLECTED UPON THEATER AND CINEMA AS “MIRRORS OF REALITY”, SENDING 10 HOLLYWOOD ACTORS ON THE RUNWAY (THOMAS BRODIE-SANGSTER, ASA BUTTERFIELD, JEFF GOLDBLUM, DAMSON IDRIS, KYLE MACLACHLAN, TOM MERCIER, JADEN MICHAEL, LOUIS PARTRIDGE, ASHTON SANDERS AND FILIPPO SCOTTI). TO OPEN THE SHOW, DAVID LYNCH’S FAVOURITE MACLACHLAN TOOK HIS FIRST EVER WALK ON THE RUNWAY.
The theme of work as a crucial component of life is being invested in 49 looks, realistically and pragmatically through sartorial tailoring, here in its original language but also applied to knitwear or parkas, impressive volumes that impose, silk and leather that confer value. Eye-catching outerwear boasts the Prada codes of classic with impeccable edge, proposing hem and sleeve details. Pragmatism doesn’t compromise elegance.
The color palette reinforces this idea of everyday garment, think navy blues, greys, blacks that are subtly been shaken by some oranges, reds and yellows here and there. Exaggerated volumes on the sleeves and hems give a feel of architectured modernity. A majestic Jeff Goldblum takes the catwalk last, giving life to an almost evil-esque silhouette and giving spine-chilling looks to a mesmerized audience.
