More Is More and Demure is Out: Prada sets the tone for SS25
Gasping. At. Every. Look. Grazie Miuccia, grazie Raf, that last delivery was nothing short of a grandiose spectacle and the maximalist within us was just fed lunch, breakfast and dinner.
References to previous collections revived exciting memories - we're looking at you sandals from Spring 1996 and cap-toe Mary Janes from Fall 2012 - and the genius of Mrs Prada took the front seat this season, leaving Simons' perfectly executed minimalism on the sidelines.
As it's done brilliantly every season at Prada, the lines between nostalgia and futurism, between quiet luxury and opulence, between subtle sex-appeal and BDSM references are blurred.
So who is the Prada woman going to be next summer? Her tastes for extravaganza expresses itself with refinement, le bon goût is second nature to her and dressing up is nothing she takes too seriously.
She's muting her notifications, refusing to commit to the aggressiveness of algorithms and imposes her own pace of life: one where vintage elements collide with tomorrow's coolness. Simons described the collection as 'an exploration of individuality in an era dominated by algorithms, encouraging wearers to embrace their uniqueness.'
If our favourite creative duo masters an art, it has to be the one called 'turning the undesirable into the hottest next thing': while Prada's aesthetic can divide, the results don't. The brand has remained on top of the polls for most in-demand brand of the year for a while, even acclaimed by one seriously tough crowd, the Gen Z.
Next summer will see clashing prints mix with one another - think stripes and leopard -, metallic skirts with circle cutouts, pop colors ( we love to see Prada's iconic combo of bright red and Cerulean blue alive and well) , feathers, mini tops, low waists (don't skip pilates just yet), but also some round collars and florals for the romantic touch.
Moving forward, our whole aesthetic might very much become a replica of this collection's spectacular styling that says 'I adore fashion but I'm not a slave to it. I'm not afraid to re-wear my classics. I adore experimenting and by the way, what you think would never match is becoming inseparable.'
