From October 16 to November 9, 2024, the National Museum of Qatar in Doha will play host to Hermès Heritage In Motion, the latest—and final—chapter in the Hermès Heritage exhibition series.

Following the successes of Once Upon a Bag in 2022 and Harnessing the Roots in 2023, both held at the same iconic venue, this event closes the trilogy with a nod to movement, travel, and the house’s timeless elegance.

Steeped in history since its founding in 1837 by Thierry Hermès, the brand has evolved from its roots as a master saddler into a beacon of craftsmanship, synonymous with luxury and mobility. In Motion captures this legacy by spotlighting the brand's enduring fascination with movement—whether on foot, horseback, or by car, bicycle, or aircraft.

Visitors will find themselves immersed in the world of Hermès as they explore objects from the prestigious Émile Hermès collection, the brand's archives, the Conservatoire of Creations, and modern-day pieces that reflect this evolution. Among the standout exhibits is the first-ever Hermès scarf, featuring concentric circles of horse-drawn carriages inspired by a vintage board game. Then there are the Postilion’s riding boots, reminiscent of the fabled seven-league boots of lore, and the Flâneur d’Hermès bicycle, a picture of elegance in motion. Even the Bolide picnic bag, a 1920s classic derived from the Sac pour l’Auto, showcases how Hermès has seamlessly navigated through the ages with style and purpose.

Design ingenuity takes center stage too. The Pippa writing desk, for example, cleverly folds away when not in use, while the cane picnic basket discreetly stores a complete set of cutlery. The Inversables, two columns of glasses mounted on mobile rings, are designed to endure even the choppiest seas on a yacht or ocean liner.

Curated by Bruno Gaudichon of the La Piscine Museum of Art and Industry in Roubaix and designed by Laurence Fontaine, this exhibit will take visitors on a five-stage journey through time and movement, offering a rare glimpse into the heartbeat of Hermès’ heritage.
