Egyptian Heritage Rug Maker Kahhal 1871 presents "Outloud" collective in Cairo
On such an epic date as 02.22.2022, Cairo and its booming art scene will be the backdrop to heritage luxury rug makers Kahhal1871’s latest collaborative event. A total of 14 prominent artists will be exhibiting their highly awaited designs of hand-knotted carpets and rugs.
For this second year, the star of the show will be a dynamic panel talk, including personalities “that have been true key players in the development of the regional design landscape thus far” – think AD’s Editor-in-Chief Taleb Choudhry, Lebanese, Saudi-based groundbreaking artist Ali Chabaan or Karim Mekhtigian, the celebrated head designer of Cairo-based design firm Alchemy.
Mohamed A. El Kahhal, fifth generation Managing Director and lead designer at KAHHAL 1871 initiated this event with the wish to “support the ailing, age-old carpet-making industry, breathing innovative and powerful solutions for the sustainability of the trade all the while preserving and respecting the legacy of the artisanal process.” Mohamed A. El Kahhal is the youngest of the Kahhal family to return to Egypt and brought in his singular vision to take the lead of the family heritage company while reinventing it.
