This week, JDEED asked Myriam Melki, a Lebanese Product Designer and Illustrator to give us a tour of her favourite places in NYC where she settled down a few years ago.

Food & Cafes

Amélie is one my favorite spots in NYC. It’s a charming French wine bar that serves delicious French food. One step in, and you feel like you’re in Paris – it’s a combination of French speaking owners / waiters, wine, cheeses and a romantic yet lively atmosphere. Go there for happy hour and get the wine flights with a side of escargots! Bon Appétit!

When I am craving something sweet, I turn to Erin McKenna‘s bakery in the Lower East Side for their delicious gluten free and Vegan baked goods. For gluten intolerant people like me, this place is heaven. And their birthday cakes are out of this world!

 Stores
For book lovers like myself, make sure to visit Strand Bookstore when in the city. It carries a wonderful collection of used and new books of all kinds. It’s one of my favorite places to go when I have some time to kill. I always end up buying more books. Who ever said that print was dead?
Art
For those of you seeking an atypical and unique classical musical experience, head to Bargemusic in Brooklyn Heights on Brooklyn Bridge Blvd. It is a classical music venue set on barge with backdrops of the Manhattan skyline.
Then She Fell is a beautiful interactive play focused on the life and works of Lewis Caroll (particularly Alice In Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass). Expect an intimate and personal experience with some food and drinking involved. You’ll meet the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire cat as you follow Alice though the rabbit hole.

Myriam is a product designer and illustrator living in New York.
Things she loves: illustration, acting, experimenting, art installations, compulsively buying illustration books, discovering new things and places, and of course, Alice in Wonderland.
