Majid Jordan on Reconnecting with Roots, New Music and Cool Collabs
As they mark a decade in music, Majid Jordan reflect on their journey with the release of Good People, their most personal album yet.
From recording across two continents to performing live after years away from the stage, the duo shares how they’ve evolved creatively while staying true to their roots. In this exclusive interview, Majid Jordan delve into the making of their latest projects, including Life 2, their collaborations with artists like Feid, and an exciting new partnership with Shabab Intl. With heartfelt insights and a glimpse into what’s next, they reveal how they continue to resonate with fans worldwide, especially in the Middle East.
Good People has been described as your most personal project yet. What inspired the themes and sound of this album, and how does it reflect your journey over the past decade?
Majid Jordan: When we started creating Good People, we both knew how important it was to reconnect with our roots. Having recorded music for most of our careers in Toronto, it felt inevitable that we would complete this project in Bahrain. It had always been a dream to record in both of our homes, and instead of waiting for the right time, we made it happen. This process brought us even closer and profoundly shaped our album.
Your music has evolved significantly since Afterhours. How did the process of creating Good People and, more recently, Life 2, differ from your previous projects? What new elements did you explore this time around?
Majid Jordan: Afterhours was made under tight deadlines, but it taught us the value of being present while creating. The albums that followed became extensions of our experiences. Good People reflects how far we’ve come and serves as a gentle reminder of how fortunate we are, after all these years, to still do what we love, together. With Life 2, we let the music guide us, and we were ready to follow wherever it took us.
'Our performances have been intimate and heartfelt. We’ve waited 10 years for this moment.'
Recording Good People between Toronto and Bahrain must have brought unique perspectives. How did those settings influence the album’s production and storytelling?
Majid Jordan: Instead of forcing the album into a specific sound, we allowed it to evolve over time. It began in Toronto and reached its final form in Bahrain. The people around us—artists, family, and friends—shaped it into something we hold close to our hearts.
After years away from the stage, how did it feel to be back performing live, and what were some of the best moments from your shows in Dubai and Bahrain?
Majid Jordan: It feels incredible to be back on stage, feeling so much love and support from our fans. Our performances have been intimate and heartfelt. We’ve waited 10 years for this moment.
Your music has a deeply emotional resonance for listeners worldwide. How do you hope Life 2 and your upcoming music will connect with your fans, especially those in the Middle East?
Majid Jordan: We hope it brings them peace and happiness, becoming a part of their daily lives.
What is next for Majid Jordan? Can we expect more collaborations, new music, or even a return to the region in the future?
Majid Jordan: We’ve loved the reaction to our new single Life 2, which has been an amazing addition to our live set. Our feature track with Feid, Again, also dropped last week, and we’re thrilled to launch our Shabab Intl merch collaboration online in the coming days. There’s definitely more music to come in 2025, and we look forward to returning to the region soon.
